Fog hangs over the loch. The banks are green, the water bitterly cold. You work a bar of homemade soap between your hands, releasing the smell of herbs into the damp air. Then you step in, and the cold takes your breath.

I’ve been fascinated by Nessie since I was a kid. Something about that dark water always held my attention. When my brother went to Scotland and sent me a photograph of himself actually swimming in Loch Ness, I couldn’t stop looking at it. He was surrounded by cold and fog, completely in the water. I knew it must have been freezing. I wanted to know how it felt.

That photograph gave me somewhere to begin.

I started imagining the people who might have lived beside those shores generations ago. Someone making their own tallow soap, mixing herbs into it, then carrying it down to the water to bathe. I wanted to build the soap I pictured in their hands.

The freshness needed some bite. Mandarin and a little pepper bring that first bright rush, while green herbs run through a full, satisfying lather. Soft musks give the soap its body. Smooth cashmere woods suggest the warmth returning to freshly washed skin.

Each part belongs to the same moment: cold water around you, herbs in your hands, and the feeling of climbing out completely awake.

Old Loch Nessie exists because a photograph made me want to experience a place for myself. I followed that curiosity until I had something fresh, green and deeply clean that I could return to.

A little of that swim to carry with me, until I can take it myself.
